UCT Study Shows Recession Has Hit SA Entrepreneurship Hard |

14 May 2010, Cape Business News - The global economic crisis has dealt a major blow to local entrepreneurship. There was a 40% fall in the number of start-ups in 2009 compared to 2008 and existing entrepreneurs are struggling to survive.
This is according to the latest Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) study, conducted by the UCT Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) based at the UCT Graduate School of Business. The findings were released yesterday, as part of the new CIE book, Tracking Entrepreneurship in South Africa: A GEM Perspective, which analyses nine years of GEM data on entrepreneurship and makes recommendations for policy interventions.
