Cape Town, December 2011. Cape Town based incubator, the Telkom Bandwidth Barn, has named Shift ONE digital as the top start-up in their 2011 Velocity-Y enterprise development programme. The intensive six-month programme assists Cape Town-based start-ups by offering them mentorship and training.

Part of the mandate is to create an additional ten local institutes within an 18 month period.

Recent reports have indicated that the severe national ICT skills shortage will significantly limit the growth of this critical sector. While highly debated, authorities place the shortage figures at 70,000. This number is not disaggregated by province, however a recent survey conducted by the ICT incubator, Bandwidth Barn, reveals that the Western Cape mirrors this trend.
