| New entrepreneurship policy coming |

News: Botswana 30 April 2010, Gaborone - Government is developing a National Entrepreneurship Policy to guide the country in nurturing entrepreneurship and sustainable SMME development, Minister of Trade and Industry Ms Dorcas Makgato-Malesu announced in Gaborone Thursday. The policy will provide the transformative bedrock for the infusion of an entrepreneurial outlook amongst the citizens, stated Ms Makgato-Malesu. She was speaking at the 2nd Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) Small Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME) Conference and Fair at Boipuso Hall. She said in order to develop SMMEs, it was important to take a focused sectoral approach so that the contribution of each sector could be measured. Ms Makgato-Malesu also noted that a conducive environment for SMMEs development needs provision of appropriate infrastructure such as removal of regulatory and administrative impediments as well as development of a pro-SMME financial services sector. Also, upgrading of human skills remains a critical component of the initiative to meet the set goals The event held under the theme Expanding the Local Procurement Base was aimed at facilitating pro-SMME development resolutions among SMME support institutions.
